Dance bars near Kampala Uganda, Cheap drinks near Kampala UgandaKampala is an active city both during the day and at night. Almost every corner of the city has a bar, pub, club, or an enjoyment site. Kampala is a very lively city both in the day and at night. Even though public houses were traditionally owned and run by licensed publicans, by the early part of the 20th century, many were owned by brewing companies. In the later part of the 20th century, pubs were more independently owned and operated.

Amongst Kampala residents, the terms pub and bar are used interchangeably, but in an actual sense, they differ. A pub also known as a social house is a type of bar derived from a “public house” and is a drinking establishment. Pubs are like restaurants that also serve alcoholic drinks accompanied with a proper menu set up with a variety of locally made meals, international meals and appetizers provided before meals and desserts after and entertainment includes games like dartboards, dominoes, music, billiards, snooker, foosball, etc. Everyone is allowed especially for eating purposes and has a casual ambiance with soothing and soft music. A bar, on the other hand, is a counter licensed to serve hardcore alcoholic drinks, and refreshments are served by a bartender. Bars have a selective menu consisting mainly of appetizers and entertainment includes; music live or played by the deejay, dancefloor, or dancers. Bars are not allowed for people below the age of 18 and are accompanied by bright lighting, loud music, and a dance floor ambiance.

Drinking is part of the Kampala nightlife culture. One of the similarities between bars, pubs, and clubs is that they both serve alcoholic drinks like beer, wine, and soft drinks. Though in Kampala, most pubs and bars are blended into styled bars with artistic African decor, pool tables, dance floors, etc.

Significance of pubs in the life of Kampala residents.

Pubs are one of the oldest and most known social establishments playing a key role in localities plus the economy locally and nationally. Pubs provide a place where crucial meetings can be conducted for a variety of local institutions and focal sites for social community events and festivals. They also play a vital role in the culture of the city by bringing historic folk traditions to life by playing local songs and performing regional dances. Pubs provide an environment that is conducive, controlled, and soothing where people can relax while drinking Uganda’s finest beverages. Pubs over the years have become a favorite place for meals offering a range of foods from appetizers to desserts and snacks. They are a source of employment to thousands of the city’s residents.

One of the cons of pubs to managers is that they are too quick to close down, converted, or demolished making them susceptible to those who see no value in them.

A future without Pubs.

After it became evident that the coronavirus pandemic was taking hold of Uganda in March 2020, many pubs around Kampala and the country were shut down. On the other hand, others were closed due to poor management with outstanding predatory corporate interests or unsustainable debt. It affects community groups, sports teams, and also putting an end to charity fundraising that may have centered around. When they close it makes it difficult to showcase Kampala talent through live performances and other folk traditions, brewers and distilling companies lose a distributor and it’s associated with numerous job losses.

Pubs and the coronavirus pandemic.

The coronavirus pandemic affected all sectors of the economy of Kampala city. For the pubs, bars, and clubs, however, they were the worst hit, in particular, the presidential directive shut down the sector for the longest time which was a necessity to control the further spread of the pandemic. Efforts to keep people indoors and out of pubs are enforced in the city by the local police due to the problem that poor data and an inadequate ability to effectively track and trace individuals made it impossible to assert while setting posed the biggest risk to transmission or which measures would curb coronavirus.

Pubs and the economy.

They play a vital role in the economy of the city on which development and innovation are created. Pubs and businesses in the hospitality industry need to be put in the local recovery action since they are vital in the medium and long term for economic recovery and social resilience.

Pubs and the society.

Social capital is the core of connections at a small scale created among people sharing a common goal that builds life and career. Pubs, therefore, act as centers of life and take up the role of social anchors that bind people together aiding in the creation of strong community identity.
