Agricultural land

Uganda has a total land area of 199, 810 sq km of which 137, 620 is agriculture land. Agricultural land includes arable land and land under permanent crops and pastures. The country has substantial natural resources including fertile soils, sunshine and regular rainfalls. The fertile land can support the growth of many varieties of crops including cash and food crops.

Apart from crops, the land supports forests, swamps, savannah and lakes and provides pasture to 11.4 million population of cattle excluding goats and sheet.

Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy employing over 80% of the work force and contributes about 22% to the GDP.
